Arcosanti - An Urban Laboratory in the Arizona Desert.

"The Arcosanti Workshop program appeals for a frugal commitment, so as to induce a more equitable and sustainable development of the human experience." —Paolo Soleri

Buying green has become pop culture, sustainability is a buzzword and there is much talk of green building, sustainable cities and sustainable urban architecture. Do you wonder if all that is just a different kind of consumerism? Are you interested in what deeper changes can be made to develop a truly sustainable urban environment? What future are you working towards?  Arcosanti welcomes workshop participants from around the globe with a wide range of interests, disciplines, ages, backgrounds and skill levels.

Five-week Workshop Program

During the five-week workshop, participants are engaged in the 2 weeks of Arcosanti/Cosanti Seminar. The remaining 3 weeks will be spent on helping build Arcosanti, an alternative to urban sprawl.

WEEK 1 and 2: Arcosanti./Cosanti Seminar

This introductory seminar includes a meeting with the Cosanti Foundation's key staff, presentations on Arcosanti design principles, construction history and Arcology theory.
The program also includes extended tours of the built environment, a hike along the Aqua Fria River (Nature Walk), a silt-casting workshop, and sample work opportunities.
Participants take a Field Trip to Phoenix to stay at Cosanti, Soleri's original studios, and visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West and other local architectural interests. While at Cosanti, participants are engaged in hands-on experience in improvements of Cosanti which often includes weekend days when the craft studios are not in operation.

WEEK 3, 4 and 5: Hands-on Intensive

Previous construction or architectural knowledge is not a prerequisite for participation in our program. However, individuals must be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or a responsible adult to attend the program.
