2014 GLOBAL STILT CONGRESS (G.S.C.)

Global Stilt Congress 2014

May 18 - 31, 2014

Global Stilt Congress is an annual gathering hosted by The Carpetbag Brigade. It serves as an arena for stilt-oriented performers and practitioners to come together, exchange skills, develop craft, and strengthen our community and network. During Global Stilt Congress invited teachers and directors share their techniques, compositional strategies and life experiences through classes and lectures.

Global Stilt Congress is a mobile endeavor and will occur in Arcosanti, Arizona for its 2014 manifestation, which will be two weeks in length with the first week focused on technique building and the second week focused on creative process, culminating in a site specific performance on Saturday, May 31.

The focal points of this year's Global Stilt Congress are:

Aerial Stilts - Examining stilts as extensions of line in aerial work by spinning, swinging and flying with Allesandra Ogren from Wise Fool New Mexico

Afro Caribbean Stilts - Engaging the music, dance and stilt traditions of West Africa and the Carribean with Ali Sylvester and Najja Codrington of the Brooklyn Jumbies and Nadia Hagen of Flamchen with Axe Samba Stilt Fusion

Butoh Stilts - Transcending technique to awaken presence in character and intention by exploring the intermediate world between the ground and standing with Christopher Mankowski of The Carpetbag Brigade.

Contact Stilts - Developing relational flow and harvesting improvisational exploration by mixing the vocabulary of acrostilts and contact improvisation with Jay Ruby and Helen Goodrum of The Carpetbag Brigade.
